Throughout the suburbs, people worked together and used some elbow grease to dig out and stay warm as some of the coldest temperatures in recent history settled into the region. Residents concerned about Wheaton College dorm plan
A plan to put new student residences for Wheaton College on the southeast corner of Harrison and Irving avenues advanced last night with a 6-1 approval to grant the college a special-use permit for the residences. The plans were met with disapproval from some neighbors, including a city councilman who lives nearby. Full story.
Arlington Heights approves demolishing Nokia building
Arlington Heights officials last night approved a plan to demolish a large building on the former Nokia Siemens property at the north end of the village as the new owners look to redesign the campus and make it more appealing to prospective tenants. Torburn Partners Inc., bought the 1.1 million-square-foot campus from Nokia Siemens in June for just under $30 million. Full story.

The bad news is that it remains 11 degrees below zero this morning, The good news is the arctic cold is expected to slowly move on as the day rolls on. Temperatures are expected to top out at 4 degrees this afternoon before dipping back to 2 degrees overnight tonight. Full story.
Traffic
Ice is causing slick conditions throughout the area, and people are urged to slow down and use extreme caution. Accidents have been reported on Oak Street in Hampshire, on the Kennedy Expressway at Armatage, and I-294 near 95th Street. Full traffic from ABC Chicago News.
Bulls trade Deng to Cleveland
The Bulls traded All-Star forward Luol Deng to the Cleveland Cavaliers late last night for center Andrew Bynum and draft picks. The Bulls will almost certainly waive Bynum immediately, because the often-injured center’s contract is not fully guaranteed this season.
FSU wins BCS title
Florida State beat No. 2 Auburn 34-31 to win the last BCS national championship game last night. Jameis Winston threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Kelvin Benjamin with 13 seconds left for the victory. Full story.
