Naperville Municipal Band performs ‘Winter Winds’

The Naperville Municipal Band presents its next concert, “Winter Winds in Illinois,” at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, in the Naperville Central High School auditorium at 440 W. Aurora Ave., Naperville.

The concert, held jointly with the Madison Junior High School band, is free.

The two bands will perform two numbers together, “Reverberations” by Brian Balmages and the “Loony Tunes Overture.”

In honor of Presidents Day, the Municipal Band will perform “Reagan in Illinois,” a symphony to celebrate the Centennial of President Ronald Reagan’s birth. Paul Grizzell, a bass baritone, instructor of voice at North Central College and sound engineer at the Naperville Concert Center, will read the narration.

“The Wizard of Oz” is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2014 and the municipal band will play the overture and themes from the timeless movie. Other musical selections include “Call Me Maybe,” “The Middy March,” “Satiric Dances,” “The Silver Quill” and the introduction to Act 3 of “Lohengrin.”
