Funeral today for Carpentersville teen

Jody Siers said she is still in shock after her 19-year-old daughter died in a work accident last week, but she is finding comfort in the gift of life her oldest child gave to a stranger. Shortly after she died Monday, Stephanie Siers' heart was donated to a local 63-year-old woman, Jody said. Funeral services for Stephanie will be held at 11 a.m. today at Miller Funeral Home in West Dundee, followed by burial in the Dundee Township East Cemetery in East Dundee. Full story

When the U.S. Olympic team is named on Wednesday following the Winter Classic game between Detroit and Toronto in Ann Arbor, there's a good chance Blackhawks winger Brandon Saad won't hear his name called. There's simply too much proven talent at wing on the USA side, which means Saad might have to wait his turn. Meanwhile, when Canada reveals its Olympic roster on Jan. 7, Patrick Sharp likely can expect to hear his name called. Full story

The temperature has been hovering around 1 or 2 degrees so far, but a gradual warm-up is forecast with the thermoter hitting 10 degrees by about noon. Today's high is projected to be 14. Traffic

Suburban commuters have a number of construction zones to be aware of as they head on the roads. In the St. Charles area, work is occurring on Western Avenue between Fabyan Parkway and South Street. In Lake County, roadwork will continue on Route 22 between in Lake Zurich to Northwest Highway in the Barrington area. In DuiPage County in the Naperville area, work is set for Route 34 between Route 53/Lincoln Avenue and Yackley Road. Des Plaines police said while crews were fixing a water main break at Oakton and Lee streets, there were no traffic problems in the area. Full story
