Aurora man killed, woman critical after two-vehicle crash Friday

An Aurora man was killed and a woman was in critical condition following a head-on crash Friday night on Route 30 east of 5th Street in Oswego.

Police determined from their preliminary investigation that a vehicle traveling eastbound on Route 30 crossed the centerline and was struck by a westbound vehicle at about 6:37 p.m.

Jarred X. Harrell, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Harrell was a passenger in an eastbound vehicle driven by Janella Harrell, 24. Janella Harrell was transported to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, where she remains in critical condition Saturday evening, a hospital spokeswoman confirmed.

Stephen P. Pierce, 61 of North Aurora, drove the westbound vehicle. He was also taken to the hospital, where he was treated and released, police said.

The investigation indicated neither driver was impaired at the time of the crash, which police say remains under investigation.
