Police: Woman battered outside Palatine store

A woman loading purchases into her car in a store parking lot Wednesday night was battered and threatened by a man, Palatine police said Thursday.

Police responded to a report of battery/disorderly conduct about 7 p.m. Wednesday outside the store in the 800 block of West Euclid Ave., authorities said.

Police said the 33-year-old woman was approached by a man as she was putting bags in the back of her car. The man had his hands in his pockets, implying he had a weapon, and a scarf that covered his face, pulled up to his eyes, according to a police news release.

The man told the victim to get into her vehicle, and when she refused, the man again told her to get in the vehicle and pushed against her with his upper body, the police said. The victim started screaming, causing other shoppers to take notice. That’s when the man backed away, pulled down his scarf and told the victim it was all a joke, police said.

The victim got into her car and drove a short distance to call 911.

The man was last seen walking southbound on the east side of the store.

He is described as a white man, 5’5” to 5’7” and in his late 20s or early 30s. He was wearing a black skullcap, tan jacket, scarf and construction boots.

Those with information are asked to contact Palatine police at (847) 359-9000.
