North Chicago woman accused of animal hoarding

Animal cruelty charges have been filed against a 42-year-old North Chicago woman following the discovery of about 30 puppies in her one-bedroom apartment.

Yesdil del Garcia Hurtado is charged with animal cruelty and companion animal hoarding, ABC 7 reported Thursday on its website.

On Tuesday, police announced their discovery of the dogs, many of which were in bad condition with varying degrees of dehydration and malnutrition.

North Chicago Animal Control officials are working with area veterinarians to treat the dogs, which are expected to be placed up for adoption.

Anyone interested in helping with the everyday care of the puppies is asked to call (847) 596-8774.
