Fire opts to bring back forward Rolfe
Forward Chris Rolfe, who first joined the Chicago Fire in 2005, has re-signed with the club, team officials announced Wednesday.
“We’re pleased to have signed Chris to a new contract,” said Frank Yallop, the Fire’s new head coach and director of soccer. “He’s a dangerous attacking threat and provides a steady, veteran presence in the locker room.”
Rolfe (5-foot-8, 160 pounds) came to the Fire as a third-round pick in the 2005 MLS SuperDraft after a standout career at the University of Dayton. In seven seasons, Rolfe has appeared in 176 regular-season matches in the MLS and has 48 career goals and 22 assists. He spent three season with Aalborg BK in the Danish Superliga before returning to the Fire in 2012. He is second on the Fire’s all-time regular season goal scoring charts and seventh on the appearance list.
