Libertyville puts moratorium on marijuana dispensaries

Libertyville has imposed a moratorium on marijuana cultivation centers and dispensaries in advance of a state pilot program effective Jan. 1.

The law allows for up to 60 medical marijuana dispensaries and 22 cultivation centers throughout the state.

The village board this week agreed to a six-month moratorium on siting and permitting such uses as they are not covered by village code and time is needed to assess any changes. Libertyville is part of a joint task force to develop what would be considered appropriate regulations.
