Deadline for Wisconsin turkey, bear permits approaching

MADISON, Wis. — The deadline for filing applications for Wisconsin’s spring turkey and bear hunts is fast approaching.

Hunters have until Dec. 10 to submit their applications for both hunts.

The Department of Natural Resources will hold choose turkey permit winners in a drawing in late December or early January. Any leftover permits will go on sale in late March. The DNR has scheduled a youth turkey hunt on April 12 and 13. The regular season will begin April 16.

The DNR awards bear permits through a drawing that will take place after the Natural Resources Board sets kill limits in January. Hunters can apply for a permit or a preference point to improve their chances in future drawings.

The bear season begins Sept. 3.
