Renovations under way at Fairy Castle doll house
A nearly 80-year-old castle doll house is undergoing renovations.
The popular exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry, called Fairy Castle, was completed in 1935. It took around $500,000 and seven years to build.
But the museum says it’s showing its age.
Some of the damage to the Fairy Castle has been caused by its outdated electrical and plumbing systems. The repairs are meant to help preserve it for generations more to come.
A silent film star in the 1920s, Colleen Moore, was the driving force behind the Fairy Castle. After its completion, she organized a national tour of the elaborate doll house to raise money for children’s charities.
Years later, it made a last, final stop at the Museum of Science and Industry.
