Motions expected in Marni Yang appeal

A Lake County defense attorney says he has taken on the appeal for a woman serving a life sentence for killing of the pregnant girlfriend of former Chicago Bear Shaun Gayle.

Attorney Jed Stone told The News-Sun on Tuesday that he will file motions within 90 days in Marni Yang’s case. Jurors convicted Yang in 2011 in the October 2007 murder of 42-year-old Rhoni Reuter and Reuter’s unborn child in Deerfield. Yang is serving a life sentence.

Stone says he will request DNA tests on the shells from bullets used to kill Reuter.

Prosecutors accused Yang of carefully planning the execution of someone she viewed as a rival for the football player’s affection.

Gayle was a member of the Bears’ 1985 Super Bowl team. —
