Black Ram Restaurant reopens in Des Plaines

The Black Ram Restaurant in Des Plaines that closed in March 2009 has reopened under new ownership, officials said.

An official ribbon cutting attended by local Des Plaines leaders and chamber of commerce leaders was held last week at the restaurant, located at 1414 E. Oakton St.

The former Black Ram Steakhouse went belly up in March 2009 after 40 years in business when the state suspended its liquor license for the owner’s failure to pay taxes on the property.

Former owner Nicholas Liapes of Park Ridge said at the time that the family-owned business had been struggling for a while and couldn’t survive the economic downturn.

The new restaurant’s dining hours are 11 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday and Sunday, and 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday-Saturday.
