Quinn talks about his mom at caregiving conference

Gov. Pat Quinn is highlighting the role that those who care for the elderly and sick play by giving a personal example: his mom.

Quinn’s 96-year-old mother, Eileen Quinn, has accompanied him to political events in the past. The governor told attendees of The Washington Post Live Caregiving in America Forum on Thursday that his mother’s caregiver is like part of the family.

The Chicago Democrat calls both women a “dynamic duo.”

Quinn also used the appearance at the daylong Chicago conference to repeat his push for raising the minimum wage, saying caregivers shouldn’t live in poverty. He has said that raising it from $8.25 to $10 is a way to provide fair wages. Opponents have called it a job killer.
