1 dead, 1 injured in Zion shooting

A shooting at a party in Zion left one person dead and another injured early Sunday morning, police said.

The Zion Police Department responded to the 2400 block of Gilboa Avenue at 12:54 a.m. Sunday for multiple reports of gunshots being fired, according to a news release.

When police arrived they saw a large number of people in and around the home where a large party with more than 100 older teenagers had been taking place.

“People were observed pouring out of (the home) and were running around the street, sidewalks and alley,” the release said.

The Zion Rescue Department transported two gunshot victims to area hospitals. One was pronounced dead and the other was being treated for nonlife-threatening wounds, the release said. Identities of the victims were not released.

The Zion Police Department and members of the Lake County major Crimes Task Force are investigating.
