Anvil Club bailout a bad idea

Anvil Club bailout a bad idea

Taxpayer dollars are used to fund the services that people deem government should be providing, such as a police force and a court system. While we may disagree on exactly what level of services it is appropriate for government to provide, I think we can all agree that it is not appropriate for government to use taxpayer dollars to bail out local businesses.

Yet a bailout is exactly what the Anvil Club, a 57-year-old private supper club, proposed when its owners requested over $300,000 in funding for building improvements from the East Dundee village board. First it was the banks, then it was the auto companies requesting bailouts. Now it’s come to private supper clubs? Where will the madness end?!

Corporate welfare is not only bad for the taxpayers who bear the burden of bailouts and other corporate government perks; it’s bad for businesses as well. Government favors never come without strings attached.

No public funds for private businesses. Call your trustees today to let them know that you oppose a taxpayer bailout for the Anvil Club.
