Pedestrian hit by car near Marengo hospitalized

A 17-year-old man was hospitalized after being struck by a car about 3:45 p.m. Friday in the 19300 block of Route 20 near Marengo, McHenry County sheriff’s police said Saturday.

The man entered the roadway from the south for unknown reasons and was struck by a 2003 Cadillac North Star DHS was traveling westbound, police said in a news release. The man ws thrown into a yard on the north side of the roadway by the impact.

He was taken by Marengo Rescue to Sherman Hospital in Elgin, where he is listed in stable condition. He was not within a designated crosswalk when the crash occurred, police said. Because the victim is a minor, his name is not being released.

The driver of the car, Patrick G. Murphy, 49, of Palatine was not injured.

No citations have been issued. The accident is being investigated by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Accident Investigations Unit.
