UNLV takes down WIU 38-7

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Caleb Herring threw for 140 yards and a touchdown and rushed for another 57 to lead UNLV to a 38-7 win over Western Illinois Saturday night.

The UNLV Rebels (2-2) scored the second time they had the ball as Tim Cornett capped a 46-yard drive with a 3-yard run for the score.

The Western Illinois Leathernecks (2-2) came right back with a 10-play drive to UNLV’s 20 but could not convert on fourth down.

Herring threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Jake Phillips to give the Rebels a 17-0 halftime lead.

UNLV added two more touchdowns in the third as Cornett ran for a 42-yard score and Adonis Smith plunged in from 4 yards out, giving the Rebels a comfortable 31-0 lead.

Trenton Norvell hit Joey Borsellino with an 11-yard scoring strike in the third quarter for the Leathernecks only score.
