Aurora’s not Podunk with its theater

I caught the Sunday, Sept. 14 evening performance of “In The Heights” at the Paramount Art Centre in Aurora and once again was awed by its Broadway-like excellence in terms of story, characterizations and overall production. However, as we were leaving the theater, I heard one patron snidely comment that she had seen high school productions that were better.

I wondered from what planet that patron had just landed. For the past three years, Broadway’s classic musicals have graced the Paramount with performers who are definitely Broadway quality, and in many cases, can cite Broadway appearances on their resumes. The same goes for the story line and the production quality as many media critics are already saying about the show.

Sorry, friend, but Aurora’s not Podunk when it comes to first-class theater.
