Ex- E. Aurora teacher gets probation for inappropriate texts
A former East Aurora High School teacher received 18 months probation after pleading guilty Wednesday to texting inappropriate photos of herself to a 15-year-old student in May 2011, according to court records.
Kelly K. Miller, 34, of the 2700 block of Oak Drive, West Dundee, also must pay $2,350 in fines, complete a sex offender evaluation and have no unsupervised contact with minors while on probation.
Miller was charged with sexual exploitation of a child and distributing explicit material to a minor, both misdemeanors punishable by up to a year in jail.
Aurora police arrested her in late September 2011 after receiving a tip and conducting an investigation.
Miller, who resigned from her post before her arrest, was accused of sending two inappropriate photos of herself with texts to a 15-year-old male student earlier in the year.
At the time of Miller’s arrest, police said they did not believe any other student were involved and that Miller and the 15-year-old student did not have a sexual relationship.
Miller, who had been released after posting $1,000 bond, will be on probation until March 2015.
Kane County Judge Alice Tracy accepted the guilty plea Wednesday.
Miller’s defense attorney Kip Owen refused to comment on the case.
