Palatine Republicans host candidate, activist training

The Palatine Township Republican Organization and the Leadership Institute will conduct training Sept. 21 for people interested in becoming involved in politics or running for office.

Activist training runs from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and costs $30. Candidate training is from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and costs $40. All sessions are held at the Harper College Wojcik Conference Center, 1200 W. Algonquin Road, Palatine.

“This training is intended for both beginners and more experienced individuals, though beginners should be prepared to take a lot of notes,” said Kevin McGrane, president of PTRO.

Activists will learn how to get involved in their community with local organizations and campaigns, how to hold elected officials accountable, use social media effectively for activism and how to work with the traditional and new media. Candidates will learn how to communicate effectively, fundraise and develop a winning campaign plan.
