Former Naperville man gets 9 years for attack on estranged wife

A former Naperville man who invaded his estranged wife’s home and beat her with chairs was sentenced Thursday to nine years in prison, prosecutors said.

Kenny Edwards, 36, was found guilty of home invasion and domestic battery by a DuPage County jury in July. He was sentenced by Judge George Bakalis.

Prosecutors said Edwards entered his estranged wife’s home in Naperville about 6:15 a.m. Oct. 30, 2011, and beat her “mercilessly” by punching her and striking her with two chairs, one of which was broken over her body.

Police responded after the victim went to a neighbor.

“No one should have to fear for their personal safety while in their own home,” State’s Attorney Bob Berlin said, adding Edwards “earned” the nine-year term.

Edwards had been held on $200,000 bail since his arrest and must serve at least 4½ years before he’s eligible for parole, authorities said.
