Illinois marks anniversary of Sept. 11 attacks

Illinois is marking the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks with solemn remembrances.

In Chicago, retired Lt. Col. Ryan Yantis, a survivor of the attack on the Pentagon, will address members of the Union League Club. Bells will ring and the audience will observe a moment of silence.

In Naperville, there will be a speech by the teacher of one of the passengers of United Airlines Flight 93. The passengers and crew of that hijacked flight were able to stop the terrorists from reaching their intended target: the U.S. Capitol.

Gov. Pat Quinn on Tuesday unveiled an exhibit of portraits of nearly all the Illinois men and women who died in the attacks or in combat since Sept. 11. The drawings are on display Wednesday at Columbia College Chicago.
