Wisconsin State Patrol tackles texting while driving

MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin State Patrol is visiting high schools around the state to talk to teens and the dangers of texting and driving.

Assemblies are scheduled for Sept. 19 at La Crosse Logan High School and Waukesha South High School, with events being planned throughout the school year in others.

Since 2010, AT&T, AAA and the State Patrol have worked together to hold events in 25 cities throughout the Wisconsin.

State law prohibits all drivers from texting or emailing while operating a motor vehicle.

A documentary by filmmaker Werner Herzog called “From One Second to the Next” is also being distributed high schools across the country, including in Wisconsin. It features the story of Xzavier Davis Bilbo, a Milwaukee boy who was paralyzed after he was hit by a texting driver.
