Ryan’s 39 paces Carmel victory

Sophomore Kayla Ryan carded a 39, and Carmel Catholic’s girls golf team continued its winning streak Tuesday, as it defeated Palatine at Brae Loch Golf Course in Grayslake.

The Corsairs shot 178, as they also counted the scores of sophomore Alexa Amato (45), sophomore Eva Savovich (47) and senior Sophie Butz (47).

Ryan shot her season best and was the medalist for the match.

“She played outstanding today and has been very consistent for us so far this season,” Carmel coach Jill Franz said.

Palatine shot 229 and was lead by Carolyn Angillo’s 50.

Carmel begins East Suburban Catholic Conference play today at River Bend Golf Course in Lisle against Benet Academy and St. Viator. The Corsairs will head into the tough ESCC conference play with a 3-0 record.

Lakes d. Antioch: In their first match of the season, the Eagles shot a 227 and won by forfeit over the Sequoits, who had only three golfers finish the match.

Gretchen Metzger led the way for Lakes with a 52. Eagles coach Rebecca Schilz also credited Lauren Clark, Alexa Mann, Caitlin Farrell and Lauren Ball.

Crystal Lake Central d. Lake Zurich: At Turnberry Golf Course, Lexi Harkins’ even-par 36 lead the Tigers (167) to the win.

Lake Zurich (213) received 52s from Aine Mattera and Jenni Gorey.

Highland Park d. Libertyville: At Willow Glen, Liza Kraff was medalist with a 37 and Kelli Ono added a 39 for the Giants (163), who won by 11 strokes.

Libertyville (174) received a 41 from Emma Hoskins.
