Illinois sizzles for another day

ROCKFORD — A heat advisory is in effect for portions of Illinois as the state sizzles for another day.

The National Weather Service issued the advisory for portions for northern Illinois, from DeKalb, west to the Iowa border, and down as far south as Macomb. Several counties in southwestern Illinois are also included in a heat advisory.

Forecasters say a hot and humid air mass will push the mercury into the mid-90s on Tuesday. But the heat index will make it feel like it’s in the triple digits — particularly in the afternoon.

With no relief in sight for the next several days, state officials are urging people to take precautions and use cooling centers.

Some schools are also planning to send students home early.
