District 300 taxes out of control

It is amiss, misleading, sad and unfortunate that your leading McHenry County front-page headline on July 31 read “D300 works on avoiding big tax jump.” A comprehensive headline would have been “... avoiding another big tax jump.” My District 300 taxes alone, not overall or including district pensions, went up 19 percent from 2012 to 2013. They sneak that through, but your article now makes them seem like martyrs, “trying to save us money.”

I had hoped to retire in Algonquin, but a 19 percent increase now has me exiting Illinois upon retirement, and any further increases will simply expedite that timetable.
