2 charged over fake Viagra sold in Texas, Chicago

HOUSTON — Two men have been charged with trafficking about 17,000 fake Viagra pills in an undercover investigation linked to Texas and Illinois.

Prosecutors in Houston say an 11-count indictment unsealed Tuesday names 49-year-old Jamal Khattab of Katy and 45-year-old Fayez Al-Jabri of Chicago. Both remain in custody pending detention hearings.

Khattab faces charges of conspiracy, smuggling goods into the U.S., two counts of trafficking in counterfeit goods, two counts of trafficking in misbranded drugs and two counts of trafficking in counterfeit drugs.

Al-Jabri is charged with trafficking in counterfeit goods, trafficking in misbranded drugs and trafficking in counterfeit drugs.

The indictment says the defendants since 2010 smuggled counterfeit Viagra from China. The pills allegedly were shipped to Chicago or Houston in bulk for illegal sales in smaller quantities.
