W. Dundee has joined Twitter and Facebook

In keeping with its recent social media kick, West Dundee joined Twitter Aug. 1, the same day the village launched its presence on Facebook, as well as an online service request system that lets residents report minor issues.

Kim Tibbetts, executive secretary to the village manager, maintains the Twitter page. She said officials decided to join Twitter right away since it’s so easy to sign up, rather than waiting.

You can follow West Dundee by looking up its Twitter handle, which is @WDundee. The village had 22 followers as of Wednesday.

Emmett’s Brewing Company, Grafelman Park and parts of Route 72 serve as a backdrop for the 1 minute, 38 second promotion that targets college students, said Jesse Oxford, owner of East Dundee-based J. Oxford Studios.

Oxford said West Dundee was the perfect locale for the promotion.

“It’s close and convenient, and we want to work with the village of East and West Dundee as much as possible, so we’re trying to develop relationships to film an area we know and love,” Oxford said.”It’s a beautiful town and we love it.”

Oxford would not divulge the name of the nonprofit group that ordered the commercial, but he did say the PSA highlights laws college students should be aware of, such as texting while driving and underage drinking.

“There a lot of laws that people break accidentally, and it’s just making people aware,” Oxford said. “Everyone kind of assumes drinking is part of the college experience, but not if you’re under 21.”

You won’t see big names in this particular promotion — Oxford hired actors he already knows.

The promo was shot in early July and is expected to appear on Oxford’s website sometime this month. Check it out, as well as the company’s other local work — in East Dundee and Carpentersville — by visiting www.jesseoxford.com.
