Wisconsin gets $11 million in Race to Top grants

MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin has been awarded $11 million in Race to the Top federal grants to be used for early childhood education.

Gov. Scott Walker’s office announced the grants, which are on top of nearly $23 million the state received last year.

Walker’s office said Friday it will use the money to continue to implement early childhood education programs and improve access to quality early learning for the most vulnerable children.

Walker’s office says the state has used Race to the Top money to improve early childhood development, enhance teacher training, and increase parental involvement with the goal of having all Wisconsin children reading by the end of third grade.
