Quinn to OK bill for Peotone airport, DePaul arena

Gov. Pat Quinn is set to sign legislation that will push forward long-stalled plans for a third Chicago area airport and a DePaul University sports complex. It would also award tax incentives for a fertilizer plant in central Illinois.

State Sen. Toi Hutchinson is a sponsor of the measure that'll allow the state to pay about $71 million for land that may be used for an airport near Peotone. Hutchinson says the bill signing is set for Thursday at Governor's State University outside Chicago.

However, the bill has been criticized because it came up at the last minute during the spring legislative session ended and addresses unrelated projects.

Hutchinson says the projects are grouped together because of their focus on economic development.
