Red light cameras all about money

Red light cameras all about money

I want to congratulate you on the recent article in the paper about all the money the red-light cameras are making for Roselle. It was truthful. It made no claim whatsoever about them improving traffic safety. It’s all about money.

Almost none of the citations those cameras generate are for an act that might cause an accident. A violation of the rules, yes, but not a safety hazard.

For the record, I have never received such a citation, so it’s not a matter of “sour grapes.” But I know a few people who have. I know one man who received one for turning right on red after stopping for only one and one-half seconds, instead of the required three seconds. I didn’t even know there was such a requirement. Certainly not much of a safety violation.

If it was presented as a moneymaker instead of a traffic safety issue I would at least consider that honest. Obey the rules and you won’t contribute.

The name of the game is money,
