Pols making public employees pay

The governor and many state legislators continue in their divisive rhetoric to make the pension issue an us versus them fight. They are trying to protect the taxpayers.

The people of Illinois need to know that firefighters, police, EMTs, teachers, and state workers are taxpayers, too. And while this group of workers never missed paying into the state retirement system, while the state balked, they also never missed paying their state taxes, either. Even though the state diverted tax dollars to prop up other state needs at the expense of the pension system, this group kept making their payments, every paycheck.

So what kind of solution do our leaders in Springfield come up with? Divide and conquer, and make the people who lived up to their end of their contracts pay the penalty that the legislature created.
