Pay attention to detail, retailers

On the cover of the July 17 Business section is a photograph of prices in what looks to be the produce section of a supermarket. The price reads: .32¢ LB. Unless the store is charging slightly less than 1/3 of one cent per pound the price screams to be written correctly. It can be written $0.32/LB or 32¢/LB.

This mistake is made everywhere at retailers large and small. In fact, there are two in Glen Ellyn I could name here but I’ll spare them the embarrassment and loss of revenue should someone insist on paying what their own sign says they are charging.

As a math teacher for nearly 25 years I do my best to teach students (and my own children) to pay attention to detail, mean what you say and say what you mean.
