Cubs moves: Lake called up; Bogusevic to DL

The Cubs are expected to call up infielder-outfielder Junior Lake from Class AAA Iowa in time for Friday night’s series opener at Colorado. They’re also expected to place outfielder Brian Bogusevic on the disabled list.

Bogusevic reinjured a left-hamstring injury in Sunday night’s game against the Cardinals. He originally suffered the injury in Oakland on the previous road trip.

Lake, 23, played in 40 games at Iowa after suffering from a back injury at the beginning of the season. He had a hitting line of .295/.341/.462 with 4 home runs. The Cubs signed Lake as a nondrafted free agent out of the Dominican Republic on Feb. 2, 2007. He was added to the 40-man roster in November 2011.

The Cubs are currently short on outfielders, with David DeJesus (shoulder) and Ryan Sweeney (rib) already on the DL. DeJesus, who has been out since mid-June, is expected back soon.
