Cool off in Waukegan

Due to the high temperatures expected this week, several locations in Waukegan have been designated as cooling centers. The elderly, infirm, small children, and anyone else wanting to escape the heat can go to the sites to cool off. The sites are: the Waukegan Public Library, 128 N County St.; Waukegan Township Park Place, 414 S Lewis Ave.; the Waukegan Park District Belvidere Recreation Center, 412 N Lewis Ave.; the Waukegan Park District Jack Benny Center, 39 Jack Benny Drive; and the Illinois Department of Human Services, Division of Rehabilitation Services, 2740 Grand Ave. The Illinois Department of Human Services facility at 3235 Belvidere Road in Park City will be a cooling center, too. Hours and age restrictions vary from site to site. For those details, call Waukegan police at (847) 599-2608.
