Woman gets 8 years in fatal DUI case

JOLIET, Ill. (AP) — A Will County woman who was drunk when she struck and killed a bicyclist with her car last year has been sentenced to eight years in prison.

In a news release, the county state's attorney's office says 32-year-old Cara Quiett of Rockdale was sentenced Friday by Judge Daniel Rozek.

In April, Quiett pleaded guilty to felony aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol in the death of 49-year-old James Farmer.

Farmer was riding through Rockdale on his way home to Joliet on June 6, 2012, when he was struck by Quiett's car. After she refused to allow authorities to draw blood, authorities got a search warrant for her blood, and tests five hours after the accident showed she had a blood alcohol level of nearly twice the legal limit.
