Hoffman Estates man pleads guilty to BB gun shooting

A Hoffman Estates man pleaded guilty to shooting at police with a BB gun when they responded last April to a report of a family problem at his home, court clerk records show.

Cook County Judge Jill Cerone Marisie sentenced 47-year-old Mark Mlynarczyk to 24 months of probation and ordered him to undergo mental health treatment. Marisie also sentenced him to 90 days in Cook County Jail, which he has already served, and ordered him to pay $704 in fines.

Police arrived at Mlynarczyk’s home in the 1800 block of Ashley Road on April 5 and found him carrying a realistic-looking BB gun, authorities said. When officers ordered him to drop his weapon, he raised the gun toward the officers, at which point an officer tried to disarm him using a Taser.

According to a Hoffman Estates police spokesman, Mlynarczyk did not receive the full effect of the Taser and continued to resist, shooting the BB gun at an officer. Other officers were subsequently able to subdue Mlynarczyk, the spokesman said.
