University of Chicago student drowned in lake

The Cook County medical examiner says the death of a University of Chicago student recovered from Lake Michigan was accidental.

The medical examiner said Thursday that 20-year-old Austin Hudson-LaPore’s cause of the death was drowning. The third-year student went missing a week ago. Chicago police recovered his body from the lake early Wednesday after a fisherman spotted the body.

Family members and friends have said they believe Hudson-LaPore went to Lake Michigan’s shore to observe storms that swept the area the day he disappeared. He had taken his final exams the same day.
