Mom, caretaker charged in autistic boy’s stabbing

The mother of a 14-year-old with severe autism who was found stabbed to death Sunday in River Grove has been charged with murder. His live-in caretaker also has been charged.

Authorities said Alex Spourdalakis was stabbed numerous times in the chest. He was found lying on his bed in a second-floor apartment.

Cook County state’s attorney’s office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton said Dorothy Spourdalakis and caretaker Jolanta Skrodzka are charged in the death.

Authorities said the 50-year-old Spourdalakis and the 40-year-old Skrodzka lived at the apartment where the boy was found. They were found semiconscious but uninjured in the locked apartment.

Police said the boy needed constant care because of his severe autism.

Simonton said a bond hearing for the women will be held Wednesday. It wasn’t immediately known if the women have attorneys.
