Yoga for breast cancer survivors

Breast cancer survivors have had a new way to improve their health through a free Yoga for Breast Cancer Survivors class offered two days a week.

The class is held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturdays at Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center-Crystal Lake, 200 E. Congress Parkway, and 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Centegra Gavers Breast Center, 360 N. Terra Cotta Road, Crystal Lake.

“This program is taught by a certified yoga instructor who is also a breast cancer survivor and understands the emotional and physical barriers that participants may be experiencing,” said Lynn Griesmaier, breast health navigator at Centegra Health System. “Our goal is to give women the opportunity to gently exercise while gaining the benefits of stretching according to their personal comfort levels. The class will also help women connect with other breast cancer survivors.”

There is no preregistration required for the class. Participants should sign in at the front desk. The class is open on a first-come, first-served basis and limited to 27 participants.
