Safety check planned in Hanover Park

Illinois State Police and the Hanover Park Police Department will conduct a joint roadside safety check in Hanover Park on the evening Friday, June 8.

Officers working the detail will watch for drivers who are under the influence, transporting open alcoholic beverages, operating unsafe vehicles and driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license.

Alcohol and drug impairment remains a significant factor in more than 40 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois, officials said. Safety checks are designed to keep roads safe by taking dangerous DUI offenders off the road.

The Roadside Safety Check is part of the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign and is funded through a grant from the federal National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The grant is administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety.
