Lake Forest makes it to supersectional

In a battle of the top two seeds in the Class 2A Lakes sectional, No. 2 survived.

Second-seeded Lake Forest held off top seed Deerfield 2-1 Saturday morning in Lake Villa.

Lake Forest (11-2-6) meets Prairie Ridge in the Barrington supersectional at 5 p.m. Tuesday for the chance to reach the final four in the state tournament.

“We’re still young and it comes down to a mental game at the end,” Lake Forest coach Ty Stuckslager said. “Deerfield’s keeper (Bailey Bradford) made it close and she was one of the best keepers that we’ve seen all year.

“One goal either way could’ve changed the dynamics of the game either way. It was the way a sectional final should be — almost, almost, almost.”

Bradford made 10 of her 14 saves for Deerfield (16-7-2) in the first half.

Lake Forest’s Bailey Ehrens scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 36th minute.

The Scouts got on the board first in the 11th minute as Brooke Green netted a goal off a Carly Hoke cross.

The Warriors tied it at 1-1 in the 30th minute of play. Claire Mulert knocked in a header off a Samara Haas corner kick.
