Lawyer at Trump trial: We have right to mock New York
City pride has intervened at a Chicago civil trial featuring New Yorker Donald Trump
The case that went to jurors Wednesday stems from 87-year-old Jacqueline Goldberg’s claim that Trump cheated her in an investment in Chicago’s Trump International Hotel & Tower.
During closing arguments Wednesday, Goldberg’s attorney Shelly Kulwin made an unfavorable reference to executives in New York. Trump’s attorney Stephen Novack jumped to object, saying, “Judge, he’s mocking New York.” The Chicago-based Kulwin shot back, “I can’t mock New York? I thought it was every Chicagoan’s right to do that.”
The city rivalry arose last week when Trump testified and kept rushing to answer Kulwin’s questions before he’d finished asking them. An annoyed Kulwin told Trump, “We’re in Chicago. We go a little slower here.”
