Vista and Tuscan model homes open at Symphony Meadows

Two new model homes wow visitors at Symphony Meadows, a master-planned community in Volo with scenic wetlands, conservation areas, lakes and nature trails.

Situated east of Route 120 off Gilmer Road, the D.R. Horton community also offers two neighborhood parks, basketball courts, soccer fields and gazebos.

The new models at Symphony Meadows are receiving rave reviews, said Chris Naatz, vice president of sales and marketing for D.R. Horton.

“The Vista model shows a recently introduced Country Kitchen option, which is an expansive and inviting space with an oversized island and breakfast area. And the second-story bonus recreation room is a must see!

“The Tuscan features a flex room and stunning kitchen. For the first time, the Tuscan is modeled with the second-story bonus room option, … decorated to demonstrate an all-in-one space of gaming, home Internet cafe counter and lounge area.”

With interior designs by Laura O'Connor Design, the models inspire homebuyers with ideas to dress up their own new homes.

Priced from $216,490, Vista offers four bedrooms, second-floor family room, den, 2½ baths, basement and 2½-car garage with optional service door. The house's base price is $194,990 without basement.

A pomegranate, gray and midnight gray color scheme mixes with medium brown and black wood tones in the Vista, which is outfitted for casual, comfortable living.

In the living-dining space, gray and pomegranate walls contrast with neutral furnishings while artwork and accessories show a touch of Americana.

A long credenza with horizontal mirror above and a glass-topped desk area for working on laptops or iPads gives the area a current look for today's lifestyles.

In the kitchen, a stunning blend of dark and light wood cabinets with black granite countertops and black appliances impresses.

A rectangular wood table furnishes a breakfast nook that overlooks the outdoors, while a large sectional and comfortable chair provide plenty of seating in the family room.

The upper-level loft shows a modern take on the rec room where everyone in the family can gather and flop on the sectional and ottomans and watch a movie.

In the master suite, the bed sits against a backdrop of plaid wallpaper while eclectic pieces furnish the room, which has two walk-in closets. The private bath features dual sinks and walk-in shower with seat.

Secondary bedrooms include a nursery done in black and white that is home to a big panda bear. It's all about soccer in another room with a hand-painted mural and furnished with twin beds, while horizontal gray and red stripes liven up a room for the young cheerleader.

A second new model, the Tuscan, is priced from $229,990 and features 2,475 square feet, four bedrooms, 2½ baths, flex room, full basement and two-car garage.

Storm blue walls with white trim reign in this home while arches and columns add character to the main level.

In the front of the house, the flex room serves as a family command center with an Internet cafe and a large counter-height table for using laptops and iPads or working on school projects.

Opposite, in the open dining room, a long wood table accommodates more than six people for entertaining family and friends.

The family room features a wall of windows and black leather sectional along with a rear staircase to the upper level.

With scenic outdoor views, the breakfast nook is outfitted with a wood table and a variety of chairs, including a bench seat.

The showpiece kitchen features stainless steel appliances, a mix of dark and light cabinetry topped with black granite and a backsplash of mosaic linear glass and stone tiles.

Upstairs, the multipurpose loft is set up with a foosball game, brown suede sectional loaded with pillows, plasma TV and cabinets and cubbies. A geometric painted design adds pizazz to the space.

The owner's suite features the builder's new “serenity shower” option — an oversized walk-in shower that transforms the bath into a home spalike experience.

Three secondary bedrooms include a room for the extreme sports fan of BMX racing and skateboarding, and a dance-themed room for the aspiring young dancer. A guest room with travel theme shows wallpaper above the bed to look like a headboard.

Symphony Meadows has a variety of quick move-in homes available now. Home shoppers can also choose to build a home from the start with projected completion times available for late summer and early fall.

In contrast to its country setting, Symphony Meadows is close to shopping, services and the commuter train, as well as major highways. Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy the nearby Chain O' Lakes, forest preserves, golf courses and trails for which the area is known. Volo features the Volo Bog with many nature-oriented programs and the antique car museum, home to the Batmobile.

To visit Symphony Meadows, take I-94 to the Belvidere Road (Route 120) exit; travel west about 12 miles to Gilmer Road, then left to the entrance. Or take Route 12 to 120 east to Gilmer Road, then right to the entrance on the right. Sales hours are 1 to 6 p.m. Monday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
