One dead in Elgin Twp. crash near Rt. 20 and Plank Road

A 21-year-old Sycamore woman died after the motorcycle she was riding collided with a semitrailer Wednesday afternoon in Elgin Township, authorities said.

Angela Hansen, of the 1600 block of Sparkhayes Drive, was thrown off her motorcycle after the collision on Route 20 near Plank Road, the Kane County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

Hansen, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Route 20 was closed for a time in both directions between Nesler and Plank roads, Lt. Pat Gengler said.

The initial investigation indicates the semitrailer, a 2000 International, was traveling west on Route 20 and had the green light, authorities said.

Hansen, on a 2010 Kawasaki motorcycle, was stopped facing north on Plank Road, apparently waiting to make a turn to go east on Route 20.

When the motorcycle began its turn, it accelerated rapidly and crossed the roadway and struck the trailer, the news release said.

The driver of the tractor trailer, Christopher Portner, of the 11000 block of East Morrisville Road, Stockton, was not injured.

No tickets have been issued.

The crash remains under investigation by sheriff's detectives, members of the Kane County accident reconstruction team, and Illinois State Police truck inspectors.
