Orthopedics company makes job cuts in N. Indiana

WARSAW, Ind. — Orthopedic products maker Zimmer Holdings has cut some jobs from its northern Indiana workforce.

The company didn’t specify how many workers were let go, saying only that “less than 50 full time employees were impacted” at its Warsaw operations.

Zimmer spokesman Garry Clark tells The Journal Gazette that the job reductions were made Thursday across corporate and operational functions but didn’t include Warsaw production workers.

Zimmer had about 1,500 workers in Warsaw among its some 9,300 worldwide employees as of 2012’s end.

Warsaw/Kosciusko (kahs-ee-AHS’-koh) County Chamber of Commerce president Mark Dobson tells WSBT-TV he worries a new federal medical device tax will continue to threaten jobs at Zimmer and other orthopedics companies.
