State fishing tournament rescheduled

CARLYLE, Ill. — The Illinois high school bass fishing state tournament has been rescheduled after dangerous water levels on Carlyle Lake forced it to be postponed.

The Illinois High School Association said Thursday that the competition will be May 31 to June 1. The tournament was to be May 3-4 on the lake in southern Illinois. But IHSA members conferred with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and decided to postpone activities.

IHSA Associate Executive Director Kurt Gibson says the association needs to make sure water levels on Carlyle Lake are low enough before the championship. He says IHSA is confident that will happen by the end of the month.

Flooding affected portions of Illinois last month. The tournament also was postponed in 2011 when 10 inches of rain hit the Carlyle area.
