Woman found dead in farm field was assault victim

STANFORD — A body found in a rural area of central Illinois has been identified as that of a missing Bloomington woman, and preliminary autopsy results indicate she was the victim of a fatal assault.

The body of 26-year-old Haileigh Eichhorn was found Tuesday night by a farmer just outside Stanford, a small community southwest of the city of Bloomington. She was reported missing on April 27.

McLean County Coroner Beth Kimmerling said Wednesday the woman was the victim of a fatal assault but declined to release details of her injuries, citing the ongoing investigation.
