Ill. National Guard unit returning from Egypt

NORTH RIVERSIDE, Ill. — A group of 45 Illinois Army National Guard soldiers will return home over the next few weeks after serving with a peacekeeping force in Egypt.

The National Guard said Friday that about 20 members of the 708th Medical Company will be home and honored in a ceremony on Monday in North Riverside, a suburb of Chicago. The remaining members of the group will be back next month.

The company was deployed to the Sinai Peninsula last summer as part of an international peacekeeping force called the Multinational Force and Observers. The organization oversees the terms of the 1979 peace treaty between Egypt and Israel.

The soldiers worked with counterparts from Fiji, Columbia, Uruguay, Hungary and Italy.
