More Des Plaines roads open today

More Des Plaines streets are open today since standing floodwater has dried up in several areas.

As of Thursday morning, the water level of Des Plaines River near Des Plaines had dropped to flood stage 7.4 feet, according to the National Weather Service.

River Road from Miner Street to Algonquin in Des Plaines is now open to traffic, and River Road between Rand Road and Elk Boulevard is expected to open at around noon.

The river crested at a record 10.92 feet Friday, April 19.

Motorists are advised to observe detour signs and whenever possible to use major east/west routes such as Touhy Avenue and Northwest Highway.

Accessible north/south routes are: Mount Prospect Road, Elmhurst Road, Wolf Road, Lee Street/Higgins Road,

River Road/Oakton Street to Touhy Avenue

Accessible east/west routes are: Miner/Northwest Highway, Touhy Avenue, Devon Avenue, Oakton Street, Rand Road

Golf Road between River Road and East River Road
